Punjab government moves SC against HC order for probe into corruption allegations

The Punjab government has approached the Supreme Court challenging an order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court directing an investigation into corruption allegations involving people linked to the AAP-led government and asking for a report within two months.
The state government filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) against the High Court order at 1.42 am on Tuesday, according to the Supreme Court website.
The High Court had passed the order on a petition filed by advocate Nikhil Saraf.
The allegations include demands for cash in exchange for transfers and favourable government policies.
The petitioner claimed that no action had been taken despite communications sent by the Enforcement Directorate to the Aam Aadmi Party government.
It was argued that the allegations required an independent investigation as they raised serious questions about the functioning of the state government.
The High Court also directed the Punjab Police and the state government to hand over all documents related to the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). (with inputs from PTI)
