Ranchi: CIP intern alleges rape by M Phil student, accused arrested
An intern at the Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP) in Ranchi has allegedly been raped by a postgraduate student in a hostel room, police said on Tuesday.
The incident allegedly took place on June 28 after the intern went to the accused’s hostel room to seek information about psychometric test procedures, according to police.
The complainant alleged that the postgraduate student mixed an intoxicating substance into a glass of water, which she consumed, after which he allegedly raped her while she was in the room.
Police said the intern initially filed a zero FIR in a neighbouring state. The case was subsequently transferred to Kanke police station in Ranchi, where a fresh FIR was registered on Sunday.
The accused, who is from Rajasthan, was arrested on Monday, a senior police officer said.
Police said the delay in reporting the alleged incident was due to the woman being scared and experiencing mental trauma.
The accused is a student of the M Phil Clinical programme at CIP, the officer said.
The investigation into the allegations is underway, police added.
