Stories, soul and self-discovery take centre stage

Dubai witnessed an evening of literature and reflection as acclaimed author Asha Iyer Kumar launched her latest works at a special event titled “When Words Heal — An Evening of Stories & Soul”. Hosted by MotivART at B-HUB, BurJuman, the gathering brought together readers, writers, and literary enthusiasts for an intimate celebration of storytelling.
The evening marked the release of Kumar’s memoir Scratched and her poetry collection The Longing Room. Through live readings and candid reflections, the Dubai-based author shared insights into her creative journey, speaking openly about her triumphs and travails. The interactive session allowed the audience to engage deeply with the themes of resilience, healing, and emotional courage that shape her latest works. Scratched explores the process of making peace with the past and the courageous journeys individuals undertake to overcome personal challenges. Meanwhile, The Longing Room captures quiet emotional landscapes through evocative poetry.
The atmosphere of the evening was both contemplative and uplifting. Complementing the literary discussions, the session concluded with a quiet musical meditation, creating a space for emotional immersion and introspection.
At forty-seven, Asha thought she had life figured out, until grief struck like a storm, leaving her shattered and searching for meaning. Scratched is the story of a woman who lost her cornerstone, spiralled into the depths of anxiety and depression, and fought her way back - not with grand victories, but with quiet realisations, raw introspection, and the healing power of acceptance. From the weight of loss to the anxiety of mirroring her mother’s struggles, this memoir is not just about surviving; it’s about understanding. It’s about making peace with the past, embracing the imperfections of life, and finding strength in the very places that once felt broken.
