J&K Police ban unauthorised protests ahead of Article 370 abrogation anniversary

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday, August 5, prohibited unauthorised protests, rallies and public gatherings ahead of the seventh anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, warning of strict action against violators.

The advisory, issued by district police headquarters, came ahead of Wednesday's anniversary and amid a protest call by the Mehbooba Mufti-led People's Democratic Party (PDP).

"The general public is informed that no protest, rally, procession, demonstration or any other public gathering shall be held without prior permission from the competent authority," the police said.

The police warned that any violation of the advisory would invite action in accordance with the law.

They said comprehensive security arrangements had been put in place to maintain peace, public order and public safety.

The police also appealed to residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies, maintain communal harmony, avoid spreading rumours or unverified information, and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
