Ravneet Singh Bittu detained after waving liquor bottle at Mann's cavalcade

Punjab Police detained BJP leader and former Union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu on Saturday after he waved a liquor bottle, eggs and tomatoes as Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's cavalcade passed along Ferozepur Road.

Bittu staged the protest outside Punjab Agricultural University, holding up a liquor bottle and saying he was "returning the bottle" so that Mann could enjoy liquor while AAP leaders allegedly "loot Punjab".

The BJP leader also displayed eggs and tomatoes, claiming they were being returned after they were allegedly thrown at his convoy near Batala on Friday while he was travelling to Pathankot for the BJP's anti-drug yatra, launched by party president Nitin Nabin.

Bittu had alleged that AAP workers attacked his convoy and damaged several vehicles during the incident. He claimed more than 100 AAP workers hurled stones and eggs at the convoy, damaging the windows of two escort vehicles and the jammer vehicle.

Following the alleged attack, Bittu had said the BJP would respond through peaceful democratic protests at venues where Mann holds programmes. He also maintained that police action would not stop the party from opposing the AAP government.

The latest detention came as tensions continued between the BJP and AAP in Punjab following the alleged attack on Bittu's convoy.
