Bhiwandi man held for allegedly killing wife over family ‘disrespect’; Maharashtra

A 21-year-old man was arrested in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi city on Saturday for allegedly strangling his 19-year-old wife to death, with police saying he claimed he was upset over her alleged lack of respect towards his family.

The accused, identified as Tabrez Jamshed Alam, came under suspicion after taking his wife, Sainab Tabrez Alam, to Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) Hospital on Friday evening.

According to police, doctors examining Sainab noticed strangulation marks on her neck as well as fresh injuries on her face. The hospital subsequently alerted Narpoli Police about the circumstances surrounding her death.

During questioning, Alam allegedly told police that he had strangled his wife because he was angry with her over the way she treated his family members, an official said.

Police subsequently arrested him and registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with murder.

The investigation is underway to establish the circumstances leading to the woman’s death, police said.
