Top breeds and global judges to shine at Jamshedpur Dog Show

Wednesday, 08 January 2025 | PNS | Jamshedpur

The 34th & 35th FCI Dog Show, organized under the aegis of the Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI) and The Kennel Club of India, alongside the 77th & 78th Championship Dog Show hosted by the Jamshedpur Kennel Club (JKC), is set to take place from January 9th to 12th, 2025. This grand event will be hosted at the Archery Ground of the J.R.D. Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur, celebrating canine excellence, pedigree, and sportsmanship. While the JKC show is an annual tradition, the privilege of hosting the FCI show has been granted to JKC for only the second time since its inception in 1977.

Addressing a press meet, Ruchi Narendran, said that Jamshedpur Kennel Club is the only kennel club in eastern India to have been awarded this honor twice. The event will feature a variety of competitions and specialty shows, including an Obedience Test, Labrador Specialty Show, Beagle Specialty Show, Dobermann Specialty Show, and Siberian Husky Specialty Show.

The Obedience Competition of JKC is among the most respected in India, with 49 dogs participating. Of these, 27 dogs will compete for Post Graduate Qualification, while 18 will participate in the Companion Dog assessment, focusing on dogs used for medical purposes. Other obedience shows in India feature significantly fewer participants in these categories. The FCI and JKC Shows will feature 421 dogs competing for the prestigious Best in Show title. A record-breaking 49 breeds will participate, including 44 Dobermanns and 31 Siberian Huskies. Harlequin Great Danes will also be a star attraction, with four entering the ring. Several exotic breeds will be making their debut on Jamshedpur grounds, including Keeshond and Toy Spaniel Papillon. Rare breeds returning after years include Samoyed, Miniature Schnauzer, English Setter, Miniature Pinscher, Dogue de Bordeaux, Dogo Argentino, and American Staffordshire. Audience favorites from last year, such as Schipperke, Fox Terrier, Jack Russell Terrier, English Pointer, and Cane Corso, will also return.

This year’s special event will rank the top 8 dogs of Jamshedpur, with titles ranging from Best in Show to 8th Best in Show. These dogs will represent the best local talent. The judging panel comprises FCI-certified experts from around the globe, many of whom are regular judges at the World Dog Show and pioneers in breed development. The 34th & 35th FCI Dog Show and the 77th & 78th Championship Dog Show promise to be a spectacular celebration of canine excellence. With world-class participants, expert judges, and an electric atmosphere, this event is a must-attend for dog lovers and sports enthusiasts alike. It is set to strengthen Jamshedpur’s growing reputation as a hub for canine sports and excellence, marking a significant milestone for the local and national dog breeding and sporting community.
