Political parties assert their claim to throne

Wednesday, 08 January 2025 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

Political parties including the BJP, AAP and Congress welcomed the announcement of Delhi assembly elections and asserted their claim to the throne with the AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal terming the elections as a battle between ‘politics of work’ and ‘politics of hurling abuses’.

Welcoming the announcement, the former Chief Minister rallied AAP’s volunteers, calling them the party’s greatest strength and urging them to rise with determination to defeat the opposition’s machinery. “The election schedule has been announced. All volunteers should gear up with full strength and enthusiasm to take the field. Even their massive machinery fails in the face of your passion. You are our greatest strength. This election will be a contest between the politics of work and the politics of hurling abuses. The trust of Delhi's people will remain with our politics of work. We will surely win,” Kejriwal said in a post on X.

Addressing a press conference, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said that the day every Delhiite has been waiting for has finally been announced by the Election Commission today.

“On 5th February, 1,55,24,958 voters of Delhi will vote for the vision of building a new, better and beautiful Delhi and on 8th February, the lotus flower will bloom in Delhi under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a double engine government will be formed in Delhi. BJP welcomes the date announced by the Election Commission and undoubtedly the people of Delhi are also determined to oust such corrupt and Delhi-plundering AAP-Da government from power,” he added.

West Delhi BJP MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat said, “People of Delhi will exercise their voting rights on February 5. I am fully assured that the public will vote for the BJP for the way the party is developing the country and other states. They will elect a BJP chief minister on February 8. "

New Delhi BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj called elections ‘a festival of democracy’, and requested the people of Delhi, especially the youth, to come out in large numbers and vote for change. “Now it is time to build a progressive Delhi, a healthy Delhi, a Delhi that is going to become a world-class city with proper infrastructure. For that, what is required is a BJP double-engine government model in Delhi," she stated.

Chandni Chowk BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal welcomed the Election Commission’s announcement of the Delhi Assembly election dates, highlighting that choosing Wednesday as the polling day is a thoughtful decision. He stated that this move will ensure maximum voter participation as it falls on a working day rather than a weekend.
