Lohardaga MP lends support to protesting mica workers

Tuesday, 07 January 2025 | Vinod Prasad | Lohardaga

s part of the previously announced program, a one-day protest demonstration program of Truck Unloader Mazdoor Sangh was organized at the Lohardaga unloading complex operated by Hindalco on Monday. Which was presided over by Anil Oraon. Lohardaga Lok Sabha MP and Coal, Steel and Mining Ministry Standing Committee member of Lok Sabha Sukhdev Bhagat was present in this program as the chief guest. On the occasion, the workers informed the MP about their problems and demanded justice for them and providing employment to the workers.

Addressing the workers present on the spot, Bhagat said that he is with them in the movement organized by the workers. Because Hindalco company has adopted a double character and has exploited the workers, which will not be tolerated. The MP said that hundreds of truck unloader laborers have been working here for the last 17 years and Hindalco Company has closed the unloading station for two months without informing the workers and without providing employment. Due to which thousands of workers have been affected. A situation of starvation has arisen among the workers. The workers are not able to pay the fees of their children.

Workers have a huge contribution in the construction of the country and Hindalco is doing injustice to the workers, which is not fair. If the company has stopped the operation of trucks due to pollution, then the ropeway will also cause pollution. Thousands of workers lost their jobs due to Hindalco's dual policy. In any case, the company should have closed the unloading station only after making alternative arrangements for the workers. Any company has to provide employment and not take away employment. The MP said that if you kick in the back, it will be okay but if you kick in the stomach, it will not be tolerated.

The MP assured the workers that he is with them in their agitation and in their happiness and sorrow. He will try to get employment from Hindalco company and if needed, he will also talk to the Chief Minister and Labor Minister. The MP went with the workers to the ropeway site where 22 trolleys of the ropeway had fallen 10 days ago. While inspecting the ropeway, the MP said that the residents of Lohardaga district were fortunate that there was no loss of life or property in the accident. This incident has happened due to the negligence of Hindalco administration because it has now been given to a private company to run it. The culprit of this incident is Hindalco company and the negligence of the district administration which has not yet taken any action after taking cognizance of this matter.

On the spot, the MP instructed the Sub-Divisional Officer that the ropeway will be started only after the district administration and Hindalco company are completely satisfied by coordination and will inform me about it. If the ropeway is started without satisfaction and any accident occurs in the meantime, then Hindalco and the district administration will be held guilty. On the spot, the workers said that if Hindalco company does not provide us employment, then the next program will be the siege of Hindalco headquarters and further traffic jam as per the constitutional process.
