Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Monday unveiled two panther sculptures, at Janki Chowk, located at the crossroads of sectors 20, 22 and 23, Dwarka.
The sculpture was prepared under the guidance of Lieutenant Governor, aimed at transforming this pivotal junction into a symbol of artistic excellence and community identity, providing a landmark of aesthetic and civic pride.
“Weighing 1.5 tonnes each and finished in exquisite granite stone, the sculptures are strategically positioned at a point frequently used by residents and visitors heading towards iconic destinations such as Bharat Vandana Park in Sector 20, the DDA Golf Course in Sector 24, and the state-of-the-art Yashobhoomi Convention Centre in Sector 25, serving as both a visual landmark and a reflection of the vibrant spirit of the Dwarka sub-city,” a statement by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) said.
It added that the panther, embodying agility, strength and grace, resonates with the aspirations of a modern suburb while subtly emphasizing the harmonious coexistence of nature and development. “This sculpture point would become a place of interest and admiration for residents and visitors, exemplifying a commitment to integrate art with urban infrastructure, aligning with the larger vision of transforming Dwarka into a world-class hub that balances functionality with elegance,” it said.
To enhance Ease of Living and to build world-class infrastructure, the DDA, under guidance and supervision of Lt Governor, is working relentlessly towards unprecedented infrastructural development of Dwarka sub-city and has successfully completed many projects, including construction of affordable to premium houses, it stated.
The statement added that the area has seen major progress in development of roads, FOBs, community centres, and improvement in drainage systems, ensuring a seamless and efficient urban experience for the local residents. “A significant milestone has been achieved in the rejuvenation of Storm Water Channels 2 and 5. Through this extensive project, sewage of various sectors of Dwarka is now intercepted and treated before merging with Najafgarh drain which further falls into River Yamuna,” it said.
Dwarka is also emerging as a hub for sports and recreation. The recent inauguration of the country’s longest golf course in Sector-24, spanning 7,377 yards, offers state-of-the-art facilities including an 18-hole course, a driving range, a clubhouse, a swimming pool, and a Golf Academy to nurture budding golfers.
Additionally, Centres of Excellence are being established in Dwarka for sports like wrestling, boxing, tennis, and hockey, further strengthening Delhi’s position in the sports arena.
The city’s green cover will expand further with the upcoming 200-acre Bharat Vandana Park in the sub city, designed to provide vast open spaces and eco-friendly recreational areas.
