ESL Steel Limited (ESL) has achieved a remarkable milestone at the National Convention on Quality Concepts (NCQC) 2024, held at ABV-IIITM, Gwalior. Competing against 2,227 teams from 607 companies, ESL secured one Par Excellence Award and two Excellence Awards, showcasing its commitment to innovation and excellence.
The Par Excellence Award was won by Team UDAAN from SMS Refractory, comprising Kumar Diwakar, Priyadarshini, and Jitendra Kumar. The team was recognized for achieving SMS’s highest-ever Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) life and the lowest specific refractory consumption.
Two Excellence Awards were also secured by ESL. Team PRAYAS from SMS, consisting of Jaydeb Murmu, Arindam Kotal, and Abhineet Kumar, was honoured for reducing specific nitrogen consumption. Meanwhile, Team PARIVARTAN from Bar Mill, featuring Subhendu Banerjee, Shalu Raj, and Richa Shukla, was celebrated for improving mill availability and minimizing hooking.
These achievements were the result of ESL’s meticulous preparation, guided by the Business Excellence Team, which oversaw a rigorous process of screening, knowledge testing, case study development, and presentation refinement.
At NCQC, teams were assessed on Case Study Content, Knowledge Test Scores, and Live Presentation Scores. ESL’s stellar performance across these categories reaffirms its leadership in quality management and operational innovation.
