Himachal CM goes to Winter Carnival Shimla
Shimla: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu went to the Winter Carnival at the Ridge in Shimla on Thursday late evening where Mayor Surinder Chauhan was also present. Sukhu said that the Winter Carnival Shimla was first organized last year and was scheduled this time from 24th December 2024 to 2nd January 2025. However, due to the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, the event was postponed midway to be executed from 2nd to 8th January. He highlighted the carnival as a major attraction for tourists, especially during Christmas and New Year, and emphasized the government’s efforts to promote tourism in a big way as it is a significant contributor to Himachal Pradesh’s economy. The event featured a performance by Singer Satinder Sartaaj, who enthralled the audience by his Sufi Songs.
Superintending Officer in Haryana arrested for accepting bribe
Chandigarh: The Gurugram team of the Haryana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Friday arrested Rajesh Kumar, a Superintending Officer( ASI Incharge) in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, posted at the CGO Complex office in Faridabad, while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000. The accused had demanded the bribe from the complainant in exchange for filing a notice for the second phase of the inspection schedule of the annual survey of service sector industries and processing his return. A case has been registered against the accused in the Faridabad ACB and he has been arrested. A government spokesperson said that the ACB Gurugram team had received a complaint in this regard.
Rs 25 crore grant for Chandigarh under PM-USHA
Chandigarh: UT Chandigarh has been approved grant of Rs 20 Crore under PM-USHA, a Centrally Sponsored Scheme which is in continuation of the scheme of RUSA. The grant has been approved under two components- Grant to Strengthen Colleges & Gender Inclusion and Equity Initiative. The meeting of the Project Approval Board (PAB) was held on November 19, 2024, which was presided over by the Secretary Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India where Prerna Puri, Secretary Education, UT Chandigarh had given presentation on behalf of Chandigarh Administration. The Secretary Education, UT Chandigarh expressed happiness over the achievement and also congratulated the beneficiary institutions who got funds under PM-USHA.
Illegal Encroachments removed in Chandigarh
Chandigarh: The Enforcement teams of Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh on Friday removed temporary encroachments from various sectors of the city including Sector 27, 28, 34, Rock Garden and Sukhna Lake. For this, the MC Commissioner had earlier directed the Enforcement teams to remove the encroachments throughout the city by conducting regular drives.
Chandigarh MC Commissioner inspects night shelters
Chandigarh: Amit Kumar, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh late evening visited the temporary night shelters at GMSH, Sector 16 to take stock of health and hygiene facilities provided there. During the visit, the Commissioner also distributed blankets to the inmates living in these night shelters. They distributed blankets to inmates at night shelters at sector 32 and Sector 43 also.
