Bokaro, India's first Global Active City, is gearing up to host the much-awaited SAIL Bokaro Half Marathon 2025 on February 2, 2025, starting at 6 a.m. With the theme "Healthy and Wealthy Bokaro," the event is a testament to Bokaro Steel Plant’s (BSL) commitment to promoting fitness, inclusivity, and international standards.
The Bokaro Steel Plant management, known for its emphasis on teamwork and quality, has undertaken extensive preparations to ensure the marathon's success. During a recent media briefing, Kundan Kumar, CGM (Town Administration), highlighted the symbolic nature of the event, representing inclusivity and community spirit. This year, the participation target has been set at 4,000, and arrangements are expected to be in place to provide accommodations for outstation participants this time—a significant improvement based on last year’s feedback.
Building on its prestige, this year’s marathon, like last year, is certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), ensuring its global recognition. Kishan Chand, (GM), highlighted that the event will continue to uphold the highest quality standards, from medical assistance to volunteer support, ensuring a seamless experience for participants.
Further Kishan Chand said that significant highlight of the 2025 marathon is the integration of modern technology for accuracy and efficiency. Each participant will be equipped with bibs embedded with electronic semiconductor chips, which will record their timings through sensor beams.
The event will feature four categories: 2 km for Specially Abled, 21 km Half Marathon, 10 km Run, and 5 km Run/Walk. All participants will be awarded medals and certificates, with winners receiving cash prizes on the same day—making it a unique and rewarding experience for all.
MK Dhan, COC, emphasized that the marathon is part of BSL's broader campaign to inspire Bokaro residents to embrace healthier lifestyles. This initiative aligns with the city’s designation as a Global Active City, encouraging physical activity and community participation.
AK Avinash (GM) said that to support participants, comprehensive facilities will be provided, including emergency services with ambulances, helpline numbers, security coordinators, and other basic amenities. BSL expect overwhelming participation, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for such fitness initiatives in Bokaro and beyond.
At the press conference, Kundan Kumar (Chief General Manager, Town Administration), MK Dhan (Chief of Communications), Kishan Chand (General Manager, Finance and Accounts), Avinash Kumar (General Manager, Town Administration), Abhinav Shankar (Senior Manager, Public Relations), and other members of the organizing committee were present.
With meticulous planning and a focus on inclusivity, the SAIL Bokaro Half Marathon 2025 promises to be a landmark in Bokaro's journey toward global recognition in active living.
BSL appeals to all participants to join actively. Registrations, open since December 21, are available at www.bokaromarathon.com, and officials are confident of the event’s grand success.
