SIGMA-oikos committee of XLRI Jamshedpur successfully concluded the 16th edition of Daan Utsav, India’s festival of giving, held from October to December 2024. The event showcased a series of impactful initiatives that united students, faculty, and community partners, reinforcing XLRI’s commitment to a sustainable and inclusive future.
The week-long celebration began with a Blood Donation Drive that collected over 80 units of blood, symbolizing the spirit of altruism and service.
A standout initiative, the Wish Tree campaign, garnered tremendous support, with contributions from over 180 donors fulfilling the dreams of children and families. Collaborating with NGOs such as People for Change, Shiva Educational Trust, and Sahyog Village, the campaign raised ₹1.3 lakhs, turning heartfelt aspirations into reality.
The Cloth Donation Drive gathered over 15,000 clothing items, benefiting underserved communities across nine villages. This initiative exemplified the collective compassion of the XLRI community and partner institutions.
Health and hygiene took center stage with the Menstrual Awareness Drive, conducted in partnership with the Robinhood Army and Koru Foundation. It educated over 200 women in Gitilata village, Potka, on menstrual health, while sustainable cloth pad kits were distributed to promote dignity and environmental awareness.
The Gift of Time initiative highlighted the importance of human connections, with XLRI students spending quality time with over 160 elderly and specially-abled residents at R.P. Patel Cheshire Home and Nirmal Hriday. This effort underscored the value of emotional support and inclusion.
“As a student-driven initiative, Daan Utsav exemplifies XLRI’s vision of fostering responsible leaders sensitive to societal needs. Each contribution—big or small—creates ripples of positive change,” said Fr. Donald D'Silva, S.J., Dean of Administration and Finance.
Promoting economic empowerment, the event collaborated with Udaan to support visually impaired artisans. Festive stalls during Diwali and Christmas showcased handmade candles, diyas, and snacks, offering an inclusive platform for their skills while enriching the festive spirit.
The 16th edition of Daan Utsav underscored the unwavering dedication of XLRI’s students, faculty, and partners to community service and social responsibility. This celebration serves as a shining testament to XLRI’s mission of nurturing socially conscious leaders committed to building a better tomorrow.
