A miscreant attempting a burglary at the residence of a police officer in Radha Kunj Colony, Bhopal, was apprehended early Monday morning due to the vigilance of the officer’s family, while two accomplices managed to escape. Awadhpuri police have arrested the accused and launched an investigation into the incident.
The incident occurred at around 3 a.m. when three thieves, arriving in a government vehicle, targeted the house of Manoj Singh, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) posted at Ashbagh police station. The ASI’s daughter, waiting for her father to return home, became aware of suspicious activity outside the house.
Hearing noises and noticing an unfamiliar presence in the veranda, the family immediately alerted the police via Dial-100. When they attempted to confront the intruder, he fled to the roof to hide. Police arrived promptly at the scene and apprehended the accused. However, two accomplices stationed outside managed to escape.
The arrested individual was identified as Pawan Bijouria, an outsourced driver employed at the Registrar Medical Nursing Council office for the past three years. Bijouria resides in the Habibganj area of Bhopal. Preliminary investigations revealed that he had arrived in a government vehicle, a car bearing the registration number MP02-AB4331, which he had parked near the ASI’s residence.
According to Awadhpuri police station in-charge Ratan Singh Parihar, the ASI’s daughter first noticed the suspicious activity when she heard the sound of someone entering the house. Initially assuming it might be her father, she discovered an unfamiliar figure moving towards the first floor. Alarmed, she informed her mother, and the two followed the sounds, only to discover that a thief had entered the house with the intention of burglary.
The family’s quick action and the timely arrival of the Dial-100 team thwarted the burglary attempt. The accused, Pawan, was apprehended on the spot and taken into custody for questioning. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and revealed that he was accompanied by two accomplices who fled the scene. Police have launched a search operation to trace the two suspects.
The incident has raised questions about how the accused, an outsourced employee, had access to a government vehicle. Authorities are investigating whether the vehicle was taken without authorization and if Pawan’s employment was verified through police checks. Additionally, they are examining his possible involvement in other thefts.
The arrest has highlighted security lapses and the misuse of government resources. Police are focusing on tracing the two accomplices and determining whether the accused has a prior criminal record. The investigation aims to uncover any systemic issues that may have facilitated the misuse of a government vehicle in the commission of a crime.
Awadhpuri police have registered a case against the accused and seized the government car used in the incident. The swift response by the ASI’s family and police prevented the theft and ensured the apprehension of one of the culprits.
