The Department of Surgical Gastroenterology of AIIMS Bhopal is taking a significant step towards enhancing cancer care services by launching a new GI (Gastrointestinal) Oncosurgery Special Clinic in the New Year.
This initiative has been started with the aim of benefiting the people of Central India, offering specialized care for patients suffering from cancers of the gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, liver, gallbladder, and bile duct system. The clinic will operate every Monday from 2 PM to 4 PM in the Gastro Surgery OPD. Its goal is to improve patient outcomes through early diagnosis and specialized treatment.
Executive Director pf AIIMS Bhopal Prof Ajai Singh highlighted the importance of this new clinic, saying, "Facilities at AIIMS Bhopal are growing rapidly. The institution is already offering radiation oncology, medical oncology, and palliative care services, and this specialized GI cancer clinic will be extremely beneficial for patients." Dr Vishal Gupta, Additional Professor of the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, emphasized the need for this facility, saying, "We see many patients suffering from cancers of the esophagus, stomach, pancreas, gallbladder, bile duct, and large intestine. Many of these patients seek consultation late due to misconceptions, lack of awareness, issues with access to healthcare services, neglect of symptoms, and financial difficulties. Now, this facility will allow patients to receive timely and accurate diagnosis and treatment."
In addition to surgical management, this clinic will focus on patient education, prehabilitation, and rehabilitation, ensuring comprehensive and better care throughout the cancer treatment journey. This special service is an important step towards strengthening the cancer care infrastructure in Central India.
