n Three Indian army jawans were killed and two others received injuries when their vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in the North Kashmir district of Bandipora on Saturday.
According to preliminary reports, the accident occurred due to inclement weather and poor visibility conditions in the SK Payeen area of Bandipora.
The locals in the area responded swiftly and launched rescue operations.
This is the second incident in the last two weeks in which Indian army jawans lost their lives in a road accident.
Five soldiers were killed in the Balnoi sector of Poonch when an army vehicle rolled down into a gorge on December 24, 2024.
Srinagar-based Chinar Corps posted on X (earlier Twitter), “On 04 Jan 24, while performing duty in the Bandipora district, an Indian Army vehicle skidded and fell into the gorge due to inclement weather and poor visibility”.
Injured soldiers were promptly evacuated for medical care with assistance from Kashmiri locals, for which we express gratitude to the citizens for providing immediate succor. Tragically three bravehearts lost their lives in the unfortunate accident. Indian Army extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families”.
