A former home guard personnel who was undertrial on murder charges in Bhopal Central jail died on Thursday, his son has alleged that his father's death has occurred under mysterious circumstances.
Lakshmi Prasad Dubey the undertrial prisoner died on Thursday, his son Sunil alleged that when he went to meet his father three days ago, two people brought him supporting him on their shoulders.
He said that when we asked the jailor to get him treated, he got angry and advised us to mind our own business.
Jailer MS Maravi said that the allegations are baseless, everything will be clear in the judicial investigation of deaths in jail. Initially, doctors have said that the death was due to a heart attack.
The deceased's son said that on Thursday, on the first call, he was informed about his father's illness and after sometime he was informed about his death. When we reached Bhopal, his body was found. If he had received timely treatment in jail, his life could have been saved.
Head constable Ashok Prajapati of Gandhi Nagar police station, who is investigating the case, said that the deceased Lakshmi Prasad Dubey was of Rewa. He has been posted as a constable in the Home Guard.
On February 23, 2023, he killed a youth in Harda after which Harda police arrested him on March 3 2023. He was in Harda jail for some time, and was lodged in Bhopal Central Jail for the last one year while his case is currently under trial.
Doctors have expressed the possibility of death due to heart attack. Due to the death in judicial custody, a judicial inquiry will be conducted into the case.
Sunil said that he had gone to meet his father on December 7, when his health was in very bad shape. He was not even fit to walk and his father had told that his condition was very bad. I talked to the jailor and told him that my father's condition is very critical. It would be good if he gets treatment, on which the jailor said that what to do with the prisoner is my job. You should mind your own business. Then I said that if you want, you can send my father out for a check up once.
After this we took our father's signature on the documents and left from there. On December 12, at 12 noon, I got a call that my father's condition has become very bad, come and see him, he is ill.
When the next call came, I was directly informed about his death. I want to say that the jail staff did not take him to the hospital in time, he was taken out only after his death.
Earlier on 23 February 2023, the body of Bunty alias Vijay Kajve, of village Gomgam of Sirali police station area, was found at Harda bus stand. After this, the police started an investigation by registering a case. In the post-mortem report, it was revealed that Vijay died due to head and lung injuries.
After this, the police searched the CCTV footage of the bus stand where a person was seen beating a youth with a stick near the night shelter. The accused was identified as Laxmi Prasad Dubey, resident of Chirhat district Rewa, who was formerly a Home Guard personnel.
Lakshmi Prasad was expelled and used to live with the deceased and make his living by selling tea at the shops at the bus stand.
After being taken into custody, Laxmi Prasad Dubey had told during interrogation that his belongings had been stolen, which were suspected to be with Bunty alias Vijay. Bunty was assaulted so that he could get his stolen goods but due to hitting Vijay severely Bunty alias Vijay died.
