Yogi: Gratitude one of the core principles of Sanatan dharma

Tuesday, 04 July 2023 | PNS | Lucknow

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that expressing gratitude towards the doer was one of the core principles of Sanatan dharma, adding, “Guru Purnima is a holy festival of showing gratitude towards the guru”.

Addressing a function organised at Gorakhnath Temple on Monday on the occasion of Guru Purnima, the chief minister said, “The birth anniversary of Maharishi Ved Vyas ji is revered as Guru Purnima. Ved Vyas ji made an immeasurable contribution to preserving our religious and Vedic knowledge by writing and making it available to everyone.”

Recalling Ved Vyas ji, Guru Gorakshanath, Adi Shankaracharya, Sant Ramanand, Swami Nimbacharya and Goswami Tulsidas, the chief minister said, “Our saints and maharishis, while playing the role of gurus in different periods, protected society from distortions and worked for the welfare of entire humanity. This tradition of the saints of India inspires us to walk on the right path.”

“When Emperor Shah Jahan was imprisoned by his son, he said that the best people are the Sanatani people, who serve their parents while they are still alive and show gratitude to them even after they have passed away,” Yogi added.

He said there were numerous castes in India and various costumes and lifestyles and one factor that united them was nationalism. “Every Indian believes that India should be powerful, and it is due to this thinking of Indians that those who used to imagine dividing India into many pieces after independence became victims of negligence,” he said.

“India has made significant strides toward nationalism under the successful leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is also a matter of pride that India is also leading the G-20, a group of 20 big countries of the world, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.

The chief minister also taught people how to avoid arrogance in addition to imparting practical knowledge. He said that in Sanatan dharma, we say ‘Swaha’ and ‘Swadha’ during havan. Through ‘Swaha’ we sacrifice the ego and through ‘Swadha’ we imbibe purity in the heart.

“The Sanatan dharma motivates us to set aside our egos and work tirelessly with a pure heart for the welfare of humanity,” he added.
