A teenager suffering from blood cancer has defied the challenges posed by the life-threatening ailment to secure good marks in this year’s Plus II Science examination.

Meet P Achyuta Rao of Jeypore town in Koraput district. He never lost his spirit and consistently pursued his studies to secure 60% mark in the examination. Although the disease forced him to remain confined to his bed most of the time, he never bowed down to the situation.

Achyuta, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2019, did not treat the examination any less seriously than his fellow students, ultimately coming out with flying colours.

“I pray God to be kind for everyone and see that nobody suffers like me. I was diagnosed with blood cancer after my matriculation examination. Huge sums of money have been spent on my treatment. Survival was difficult. But in between my treatment, I never neglected my studies. I am very much happy that I secured a 60% mark,” said he, adding that he had assured his parents and relatives to clear the examination at any cost.

Achyuta’s father P Pratap Kumar said, “We have no words to express our joy. Despite his struggle with the disease, he secured 60% marks. He has the ambition to continue higher studies. After another round of checkups, we will decide the further course of action.”
