Monday, 24 July 2023 | PNS | Gorakhpur

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on Sunday, made two big announcements along with gifting development projects worth Rs 78 crore to Gorakhpur.

He announced the construction of a Kalyan Mandapam with all the facilities for organising auspicious events of the poor families and also announced the setting up of an international stadium in an area of 150 acres in Gorakhpur.

Chief Minister Yogi performed the bhoomi pujan and laid the foundation stone of a mini sports complex to be built on two acres at a cost of Rs 6,17,80,000 from his MLA Nidhi in Bhati Vihar Colony.

Along with this, he also laid the foundation stones of 42 development projects worth Rs 72 crore, including Ramgarh Tal ring road (two-lane) to be built at a cost of Rs 44.13 crore.

The 43 projects worth about Rs 78 crore include five development projects of Gorakhpur Development Authority costing Rs 68.11 crore and 38 development projects of District Urban Development Agency costing Rs 9.69 crore.

In a function organised on this occasion, the chief minister said that weddings or other auspicious functions were often seen being held by putting up tents on the roads in urban areas, which caused a lot of inconvenience to people.

In view of this problem, he directed the municipal corporation and Gorakhpur Development Authority to establish Kalyan Mandapam where poor people lacking resources could hold their auspicious events.

Initially, Kalyan Mandapams, equipped with all necessary facilities such as a hall, room, guest room, parking, lawn with a capacity to accommodate 250-300 people, will be built at six different places in Gorakhpur city. The construction of Kalyan Mandapam will cost Rs 1.5 crore.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also appealed to all public representatives to join this initiative.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the government was determined to promote sports and sportspersons and would build the first mini sports complex in Gorakhpur in addition to an international stadium in an area of 150 acre at Baghagada.

“The action plan will be prepared soon and further action will start,’ he said.

The chief minister said that the mini sports complex was a new gift for the youth of Gorakhpur for which Rs 3 crore had been provided from his MLA Local Area Development Fund. The mini sports complex will have a 300 metre synthetic running track, basketball court, indoor badminton court, lawn tennis court, volleyball court and table tennis court, rifle and pistol shooting range, cricket net practice range and a multi-purpose hall.

The chief minister directed the GDA officials to get the complex constructed within the time limit and also take suggestions from sportspersons for the development of sports facilities.

After the construction of the mini sports complex, a memorandum of understanding should be signed with the Sports department for getting better coaches, the chief minister said.

He added that an action plan was also being prepared for the revival of Pakki Bagh and wrestler Janardan Singh’s akhada.

Chief Minister Yogi said that nine years back, a mini sports complex was a dream but today it was a necessity and reality. “Activities like Khelo India, Sansad Khel Kumbh, Fit India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi have created new awareness in the field of sports. Today, players are being encouraged by establishing stadiums in every district of UP, mini stadiums in every development block, playgrounds in gram panchayats, open gyms in villages and parks,” he said.

He said that apart from giving cash prizes to medal winners in Olympics, Asiad, Commonwealth, World Championships, the government was also linking them with government jobs.

Recently, 500 players were given appointment letters. In the Police department, players are getting jobs on posts ranging from deputy superintendent of police to constable.

The chief minister said that with the construction of Ramgarh Tal two-lane ring road, the crowd of Circuit House-Padleganj road would get space all around.

This will not only make transportation easy, but tourism will also get a boost. Tourists will be able to see the beauty of the lake from all around.

Referring to the rejuvenation of 63 basic primary schools by the GDA, the chief minister said that buildings, flooring, furniture, toilets, pure drinking water, smart classes and libraries would be made available in these dilapidated schools. He said that in the past he had contributed from his MLC funds for furniture in schools.

On this occasion, the chief minister also mentioned the amount transferred at the rate of Rs 1,200 to the accounts of the parents of 1.91 crore council students and the facilities being provided to the children in the schools.

The chief minister said that changes were visible everywhere in Gorakhpur. “A person who came here five years back would not be able to recognise the city. In Gorakhpur, there is AIIMS on one hand and a fertiliser factory on the other. There is connectivity of four lanes and wide roads on all sides. There is innovation everywhere whereas earlier filth and gang wars had become the identity of Gorakhpur,” the chief minister said.

He added that today Gorakhpur was becoming a big centre of tourism along with development, which would create employment opportunities for the youth.

Motivating all the people to participate in the cleanliness survey, Yogi said that along with cleaning the house and outside, they must not throw garbage in the surrounding vacant plots. “Plastic-free Gorakhpur and cleanliness should become our identity. Cleanliness will also give us freedom from diseases,” he remarked, mentioning in this context the successful control of encephalitis by stressing on cleanliness.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath honoured the beneficiaries of PM Swanidhi Yojana and PM Awas Yojana by giving them loan sanction letters and symbolic keys of their houses. He also had intimate dialogue with them regarding employment and housing.

Prior to this, Yogi performed bhoomi pujan of the mini sports complex amid chanting of Vedic hymns and planted a sapling of Maulshree and gave the message of environmental protection.

Also present on the occasion were MP Ravi Kishan Shukla, Mayor Dr Manglesh Srivastava, GDA Vice Chairman Mahendra Singh Tanwar, BJP state vice-president and MLC Dr Dharmendra Singh, MLA Vipin Singh, Mahendrapal Singh, Dr Vimlesh Paswan, Pradeep Shukla, Mahant Ravindra Das of Kalibari, Divisional Commissioner Anil Dhingra, District Magistrate Krishna Karunesh, CDO Sanjay Meena, GDA Board member Durgesh Bajaj, BJP district president Yudhishthir Singh, metropolitan president Rajesh Gupta, and councilor Dharmdev Chauhan.
