Punjab CM pats Indian women juniors hockey team for lifting Asia Cup
Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday congratulated the Indian Women Junior Hockey Team for lifting the Asia Cup by defeating Korea 2-1. Hailing the victory, Mann said that it is a proud and historic moment for the nation as the Women's Junior Hockey Team has won the Asia Cup by defeating Korea in a scintillating match. Sharing the joyous moment, Mann said that the entire team has made every countryman proud for this coveted honour. Exuberating confidence over the bright future of Hockey, he hoped that the day is not very far off when our national sports- Hockey will soon regain its pristine glory.
Purohit inaugurates All India Sub Junior Badminton Tournament
Panchkula: Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit on Sunday inaugurated the Yonex-Sunrise 2nd Ashwani Gupta Memorial All India Sub Junior (U-15, U-17) Ranking Badminton Tournament at Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex in Panchkula. The Governor emphasized the importance of sports in shaping the future of youth and commended the organizers for hosting the championship. The Governor also highlighted the historical significance of sports in India, dating back to the Vedic era, and mentioned that the country has been at the forefront of promoting sports.
3559 appeared for PU CET (PG) entrance test
Chandigarh: Panjab University, Chandigarh, on Sunday completed the PU CET (PG) Entrance Test – 2023 for admission to various courses. Total seven centres were created, four at PU Campus Chandigarh and one each at Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana and Sri Muktsar Sahib. Total 87.77 per cent (3559 out of 4055) candidates appeared in the entrance test. Flying squad and observers were sent to every centre for routine checking and smooth conduct of the test, which was conducted satisfactorily and no untoward incident was reported from any of the examination centres.
Punjab Speaker assures to meet demands of nursing colleges soon
Chandigarh: Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan, attentively listening to the demands of nursing colleges on Sunday, assured that he would take up the issue with the Chief Minister and Health Minister of the State to resolve the issue at the earliest. In a demand letter to the Speaker, Punjab’s Nursing Training Institute Association’s president Dr Manjit Singh Dhillon highlighted the increasing demand for nursing degrees among the youth in India and the need of the nursing professionals abroad. Expressing concern about mandatory test imposed by Baba Farid Health and Sciences University, Faridkot, on nursing students, he said that this requirement may discourage students from Punjab, as well as neighboring states such as Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, UP, Bihar, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh, from pursuing their nursing studies in Punjab. He said that this decision could have adverse effects on government revenue and lead to financial crises for nursing colleges.

Mohali: Around 150 cancer survivors, along with their doctors, set the ramp on fire with their ‘fashion show like walk’ and ‘bhangra’ to celebrate the National Cancer Survivor Day at NIPER Bhawan, Mohali on Sunday. Dr Sachin Gupta, director medical and hemato oncology, Max said: “Through this program, we want to give a message to those who are currently facing this challenging disease.”
