The Department of Anesthesiology, AIIMS Bhopal organized a CME cum workshop "AIIMS Bhopal Advanced Airway Workshop", (ABAAW-2023) with the theme 'Pediatric Airway: Challenges & Opportunities' on April 7 & 8 at LT 4 and skill lab, AIIMS Bhopal. The CME offered a packed scientific program and was awarded 2 Credit hours by MP Medical Council.
The CME culminated successfully with the attendance of about 100 delegates and 50 faculty members. The CME was inaugurated by Dr. (Prof.) Ajai Singh, Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS Bhopal. Renowned faculty from AIIMS (Delhi), JIPMER (Pondicherry), BHU (Varanasi), Lady Hardinge Medical College (Delhi), Tata Memorial Hospital (Mumbai), Gandhi Medical College (Bhopal), NSCB (Jabalpur) and other premier Institutes participated as guest speakers, chairpersons and workshop instructors.
The scientific sessions on pediatric airway management for lung isolation, use of ultrasound for airway management, green and low carbon footprint anesthesia were interesting and led to a vibrant discussion on these topics. 'How I do it' session and problem-based learning discussion on the difficult and pediatric airway cases was well received. Poster and quiz competitions for residents were also held in which the delegates participated enthusiastically. Hands-on workshop for skill training on one lung ventilation, airway ultrasound was conducted successfully.
Dr. (Prof.) Ajai Singh, Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS Bhopal emphasized the multi-disciplinary team approach for airway management. He also said that the need of the hour is for all residents of Trauma, Emergency and Pediatrics to be trained for first hand intubation skills and airway management. He also shared that soon a state of the art simulation lab is being built at AIIMS Bhopal, to train all the residents in various skills. Head of Department, Anaesthesiology, Prof (Dr) Vaishali Waindeskar highlighted the recent advances in managing difficult pediatric airway and emphasised that children are not merely small adults. CME ended with vote of thanks by Prof (Dr) J.P. Sharma, Dept of Anaesthesiology.
