Actress-dancer Nora Fatehi was questioned by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of THE Delhi Police on Friday morning for around seven hours at its office here in connection with the `200-crore extortion case involving alleged conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar. The police have issued summons to actress Jacqueline Fernandez for December 12.
Fatehi had arrived at around 11 am and left the office around 6 pm after recording her statement. She was questioned about the gifts she had received from conman Sukesh. Fatehi was summoned last week.
According to EOW officials, the actress cooperated in the investigation but there are still some questions that need to be answered.
Delhi Police Special CP (Crime/EoW) Ravindra Yadav said that Fatehi’s questioning was done to strengthen the extortion case by questioning characters related to the crime syndicate being operated by Sukesh from jail. He said Fatehi cooperated but there were a few unanswered questions.
“Maybe we will need to further question. Investigation going on to find out all links, people involved in main conspiracy and if those who accepted gifts didn’t know (criminal background) or were involved in conspiracy,” Yadav said.
In her statement, Fatehi said that she didn’t know that the event where she was invited in Chennai had links to this crime syndicate.
Sukesh, currently in jail, is accused of extorting over Rs 200 crore by using fake identities. He allegedly gave expensive gifts to Fatehi and Fernandez.
On August 17, the ED filed a charge-sheet naming actor Fernandez as an accused in a multi-crore money laundering case linked to Sukesh. According to the ED, Fatehi and Fernandez received luxury cars and other expensive gifts from Sukesh.
Last year, the Delhi Police filed a chargesheet against Sukesh, his wife Leena Maria Paul, and others, alleging that he extorted Rs 200 crore from the wife of former Fortis Healthcare promoter Shivinder Singh.
However, Fatehi had refuted the allegations that conman Sukesh had gifted her a BMW and she had told the investigating officials that the car was gifted by Sukesh’s wife in return for attending an event in Chennai.
Earlier, the ED had named actor Fernandez as an accused in the Rs 200 crore extortion case. The ED had also filed the charge-sheet against the Bollywood actor in August.
Sources said that Fernandez has now been summoned by the EOW to record her statement in the case on September 12.
