Stepping up efforts to make sure that the Bengal Government does not pose any more hurdles for its “rath yatras” on December 12, the West Bengal unit of the BJP filed caveat in the Supreme Court and the Calcutta High Court on Saturday.
The Bengal Government will now have to give notice to the BJP if they move an application to the apex court against the HC Bench order of Friday.
Coming down heavily on the State Government for failing to respond to letters of the BJP seeking permission for its “rath yatras”, a Division Bench of the Calcutta HC had on Friday directed Bengal Chief Secretary, Home Secretary and Director General of Police to sort out the yatra imbroglio by December 12 and inform the appellant (the BJP) about their decisions. The decision should be reasonable and not arbitrary, the Judges said.
The court’s direction was described as a “big win for democracy” by BJP president Amit Shah.
