Vice President CP Radhakrishnan on Wednesday called upon the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) to uphold stringent and robust examination standards while highlighting the profession’s role in strengthening transparency, accountability and economic governance in the country.
The remarks were made during the celebration of the 78th Chartered Accountants Day at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The event was attended by ICAI President CA. Prasanna Kumar D, Vice-President CA. Mangesh Kinare, Central and Regional Council members, ICAI Secretary CA. (Dr.) Jai Kumar Batra and several past presidents of the Institute.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice-President praised the contribution of Chartered Accountants to India’s economic growth and acknowledged ICAI’s commitment to maintaining rigorous examination standards.
He said Chartered Accountants have played a significant role in the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) initiatives and tax reforms, adding that their expertise has strengthened transparency, improved compliance and enhanced investor confidence.
Describing Chartered Accountants as “Ambassadors of Trust”, Radhakrishnan said the profession occupies a crucial place in India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by ensuring transparency, accountability and ethical governance.
On the occasion, the Vice-President launched the ICAI Jan Utsav Portal, developed in collaboration with MyGov, to promote citizen participation and create awareness about the role of Chartered Accountants in nation-building and India’s economic development.
In his presidential address, ICAI President CA. Prasanna Kumar D said Chartered Accountants are trusted nation-builders whose profession is founded on excellence, independence, integrity, ethics and public trust. He said ICAI continues to prepare future-ready professionals through world-class education, high audit standards and continuous professional development, contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
ICAI Vice-President CA. Mangesh Kinare said the profession has a vital role in promoting good governance, financial discipline, transparency and investor confidence. He stressed the need for Chartered Accountants to embrace technological innovation while preserving the integrity, independence and professional values that define the profession.
The celebration also marked the release of the 75th edition of The Chartered Accountant Journal, a milestone in the Institute’s history.
ICAI’s Peer Review Board also launched a dedicated web portal to digitise and streamline the peer review process. The portal automates the entire review cycle-from application submission and reviewer allocation to report submission and issuance of Peer Review Certificates-with the aim of making the process more efficient, transparent and user-friendly.
The event featured technical sessions on Capital Markets and Investments, led by investment experts CA. Nilesh Shah and CA. Sunil Singhania, and a session on the Income-tax Act, 2025 by tax expert CA. (Dr.) Girish Ahuja.
As part of the nationwide Chartered Accountants Day celebrations, ICAI organised knowledge sessions, blood donation camps, tree plantation drives and several social outreach programmes across the country.
Established under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949, ICAI is a statutory body functioning under the administrative supervision of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. With more than 1.5 million members and students, the Institute is the world’s largest professional accountancy body, with a network of five regional councils, 186 branches across India and an international presence through 54 overseas chapters and 31 representative offices in 47 countries.
