Woman found decapitated in Guwahati house, husband surrenders

A woman’s partially decomposed and decapitated body was found inside a house in Guwahati’s Beltola area, while her severed head was recovered from a refrigerator, police said on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Riya Talukdar, who worked at a boutique. Her husband is a cab driver and is believed to be the prime suspect in the case. He has reportedly surrendered to the police.

The incident came to light on Sunday night after neighbours alerted police about a foul smell coming from the house. When officers reached the residence, they found the woman’s body lying on the floor and her severed head inside the refrigerator, wrapped in a plastic bag.

According to police, the murder is suspected to have taken place between 24 and 48 hours before the body was discovered, as it had already begun decomposing. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination as part of the investigation.
