Assam Rifles conducts anti-drug awareness programme for students in Champhai

Assam Rifles on Friday organised an awareness programme at Holy Cross School in Vengthar, Champhai, to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, with an emphasis on educating students about the dangers of substance abuse and the need to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
The programme was attended by 365 participants, including 350 students and 15 teachers. During the session, Assam Rifles personnel highlighted the harmful effects of drug abuse on physical and mental health, its socio-economic consequences, and the growing challenge posed by narcotics trafficking, particularly in border areas.
The interactive lecture encouraged students to participate in discussions on the impact of drug addiction and the importance of making informed choices to lead drug-free lives. School authorities appreciated the initiative, stating that such awareness programmes play an important role in guiding young people towards responsible behaviour and helping them understand the risks associated with substance abuse.
The event formed part of the observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which is marked annually on June 26 to raise awareness about the global challenge of drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking. According to Assam Rifles, the awareness drive reflects its continued efforts to engage with local communities, promote youth empowerment, support rehabilitation initiatives, and contribute to building a drug-free environment in the border region through community outreach programmes.
