1994 batch IPS officer Anurag Kumar appointed as New Delhi Police Commissioner

The Centre has appointed senior IPS officer Anurag Kumar as the new Commissioner of Delhi Police, replacing Satish Golcha in a key leadership change for the national capital's police force. A 1994-batch AGMUT cadre officer, Kumar most recently served as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau (IB), bringing decades of experience in intelligence, security and policing to his new role.
The appointment was approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs after Kumar was repatriated from the Intelligence Bureau to his parent AGMUT cadre. He takes charge at a time when Delhi Police continues to focus on strengthening law and order, counterterrorism preparedness, cybercrime investigations and public safety in the capital.
Known for his extensive experience in intelligence-led operations, Kumar has held several important assignments during his career and has been recognised for his service with prestigious police honours. Officials expect his background in national security and intelligence to contribute to policing strategies in Delhi.
The leadership transition comes as the force prepares to address evolving security challenges and improve coordination across various law enforcement agencies.
