Man killed, three SOG personnel injured during firing incident in J&K's Doda

A man was killed and three personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police's Special Operations Group (SOG) were injured during a firing incident in Doda district late Thursday night. According to officials, the encounter occurred on the Jaie-Gandoh road after security forces intercepted a man following reports of suspicious movement in the area.
Police said the man allegedly attacked security personnel and attempted to snatch a service rifle during the confrontation. Amid the scuffle, a police officer opened fire, leaving the suspect with critical injuries. Three SOG personnel were also injured in the incident.
All four were initially taken to a nearby hospital before being referred to the Government Medical College in Doda for specialised treatment. The injured man later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities identified him as Aarif Hussain, a resident of Cheeka village.
Following the incident, police detained a religious preacher for questioning, although officials said no direct link to the case has been established so far. Security has been tightened in Bhaderwah with additional deployment of police and CRPF personnel, while the Army has launched a search operation in the surrounding Jaie area as investigations continue.
