NSA Ajit Doval calls for stronger BIMSTEC security cooperation amid global uncertainty

National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval has urged BIMSTEC member countries to deepen cooperation in tackling emerging security challenges, saying the current global environment demands coordinated regional action.
Speaking at the fifth BIMSTEC National Security Advisers' Meeting in New Delhi, Doval highlighted the impact of geopolitical conflicts, rapid technological changes and disruptions in global supply chains on the region's security and economic stability.
Addressing representatives from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand, Doval stressed the need for practical and outcome-oriented collaboration to safeguard regional peace and prosperity.
He said member nations should strengthen cooperation in combating terrorism, transnational organised crime, cyber threats, maritime security and energy security while also improving disaster management and regional connectivity.
The meeting concluded with discussions on enhancing intelligence-sharing and adopting joint measures to counter evolving security threats across the Bay of Bengal region. Officials agreed that closer coordination among BIMSTEC countries would help improve regional resilience and address common challenges more effectively amid an increasingly uncertain global landscape.
