Indian gangster Nitish Kaushal arrested by FBI in Vermont days after being named most wanted

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has arrested Indian national Nitish Kaushal in Vermont, days after placing him on its Most Wanted list as part of a crackdown on transnational organised crime. Kaushal, who is alleged to have links with the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang, had been wanted in connection with multiple serious criminal cases in India, including allegations of violent offences and organised criminal activities.
According to US authorities, the arrest followed an intensive search after Kaushal was added to the FBI's Most Wanted list earlier this week. Investigators allege he was involved in cross-border organised crime and had been evading law enforcement for an extended period.
The FBI has not yet disclosed further operational details but described the arrest as part of broader efforts to dismantle international criminal networks. The arrest marks a significant development in cooperation between international law enforcement agencies tackling organised crime.
Officials are expected to initiate legal proceedings, while authorities in India are likely to coordinate with their US counterparts regarding the next steps, including possible extradition proceedings, subject to applicable legal processes.
