1 Missing after 3 swept away by floodwaters in Assam

One person remains missing after three people were swept away by strong floodwaters in Assam's Dhemaji district as heavy monsoon rains continued to batter the region, officials said on Tuesday. Rescue teams launched an intensive search operation after the incident occurred in a flood-affected area where river levels have risen sharply.
According to officials, two of the three individuals were rescued safely by local residents and emergency responders, while efforts are underway to trace the third person, who is still missing. Authorities have deployed rescue personnel and boats to search the affected stretch despite challenging weather conditions.
The incident comes as Assam continues to grapple with severe flooding triggered by incessant rainfall and overflowing rivers. Several districts, including Dhemaji, have witnessed inundation of low-lying areas, disruption of road and rail connectivity, and large-scale displacement of residents.
Officials have urged people living near rivers and flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and avoid crossing swollen streams or venturing into fast-flowing water. Disaster response teams remain on high alert as the flood situation continues to evolve across parts of the state.
