In a major crackdown on organized crime, Jalandhar Rural Police dismantled two criminal gangs, including a UK-based extortion syndicate, leading to the arrest of 10 suspects and the seizure of seven pistols, 18 live cartridges, and 10 magazines. Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Thursday announced the success, saying that the operation has significantly disrupted foreign-backed crime networks in Punjab.
Police seized a Toyota Corolla Altis, Jupiter scooter, Platina motorcycle, and Activa scooter used by the criminals in their operations. Preliminary investigations revealed the syndicate’s cross-border operations were orchestrated by figures in the UK, Greece, and Manila, directing extortion and shootings in Punjab. A weapons supply line was also traced back to Madhya Pradesh, further exposing the syndicate’s reach.
DGP Yadav said that Punjab Police had resolved 14 cases of extortion and shootings through these arrests, marking a significant blow to organized crime in the state. Further investigations are underway to establish deeper connections in the syndicate.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jalandhar Rural Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh stated the first breakthrough came when SHO Lohian Yadwinder Singh intercepted a Toyota Corolla near the Giddarpindi Hitech Toll Plaza, apprehending three suspects and recovering two pistols with six live rounds and five magazines.
The arrested suspects, identified as Amandeep Singh (Aman), Jagwinder Singh (Shani), and Jaskaran Singh (Sara), confessed that UK-based kingpin Jagdeep Singh (Jagga), along with Greece-based Paramjit Singh (Pamma) and Manila-based Manjinder Singh (Mani), orchestrated their activities. The gang had recently procured firearms from Madhya Pradesh on their handlers’ instructions.
A subsequent operation led to the arrest of three more members — Ajay Kumar (Billa), Vishal of Seinpura, and a juvenile — along with the recovery of one more pistol and three live cartridges. The suspects were found to be involved in extortion and a targeted shooting ordered by Jagga.
In a parallel operation, the CIA Staff Jalandhar Rural, led by Inspector Pushap Bali, arrested four members of another gang. Identified as Harvinder Singh (Raju), Dalwinder Singh (Guri), Sarabjit Singh (Kaka), and Harpreet Singh (Shera), the gang was connected to multiple crimes, including a shooting at a grocery shop, extortion from migrant laborers, and several motorcycle thefts. Police seized two pistols, one .315 bore pistol, and multiple rounds from them.
