Congress holds meeting of Assembly election candidates

Wednesday, 18 December 2024 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

Bracing up its preparations for the Delhi assembly polls slated to be held early next year, the Delhi Congress on Tuesday held a meeting of all its 21 announced candidates where the party asked them to take the help and support of war rooms to get necessary information about their constituencies.

Delhi Congress President Devender Yadav, while introducing the first list of 21 Congress candidates at the state party office, said, “The Central leadership of the party picked capable, experienced leaders who will romp home with comfortable wins in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections as the voters have resolved to support the Congress, having lost their faith and trust in the AAP and the BJP, who gave corruption precedence over development and people’s welfare over the past 10 years.”

Yadav also thanked Lok Sabha MP Rahul Gandhi and Congress President and Rajya Sabha MP Mallikarjun Kharge for ensuring that the best candidates were picked in the first list for the Assembly elections.

The state Congress chief, who is also contesting from Badli constituency, said that the second list of Congress candidates, which will be announced soon, will be a mix of women, youth and experience, by ensuring total balance in the selection.

He said that the system for the Assembly election will be fully centralized as the candidates will be provided all the necessary information, help and support by the War Room established at the DPCC office.

“Delhi Congress has provided relevant documents regarding their respective constituencies to each candidate, which will be hugely beneficial to them for fully understanding the profile of their constituencies,” he said, advising the candidates to closely interact with the voters and tell them about the works done by the previous Congress Government for the development of the Capital and the welfare of the people.

“The War Room, headed by Satyavart Singh, with Sidharth Rau and Rajesh Garg as Co-Chairmen, will provide all the relevant information to the candidates while Jatin Sharma will be the co-ordinator of the administration. Senior leaders Dr Narendra Nath and Hari Shankar Gupta will co-ordinate between the candidates and the War Room,” he added.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) Delhi In-charge Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin, AICC Secretary and in-charge of Delhi Sukhwinder Singh Dani, AICC Secretary in-charge of Delhi Danish Abrar and Chairman of the DPCC War Room Priyavart Singh were also present.

Nizamuddin said that Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge have given competent, experienced candidates in the first list, and they should use this opportunity to win the election, though times are difficult  and a Congress win will greatly bolster the party.  He assured the candidates that he would be always available to address any problem they face, as the party will ensure that the candidates have a smooth sailing in their election campaigns.
