Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, AIIMS Bhopal celebrated its 2nd foundation day on Saturday.
Dr Vishal Gupta, head of surgical gastroenterology, presented the annual report of department. "Our department is catering to patients with complex problems of the gastrointestinal system, pancreas, liver including cancers referred to us from parts of the state. Our clinical workload has increased significantly in last one year with around 6000 patients seen in OPD". He shared some of the difficult cases managed by the department like esophageal reconstruction surgery, biliary stricture repair, laparoscopic pancreatic surgery, portal hypertension surgery etc.
1st SGE-AIIMS Bhopal oration titled "Our Surgical Challenges, Our Indigenous Solutions" was delivered by Prof Dhananjaya Sharma on this occasion. "Innovations should address local problems by combining the Global Wisdom with Local Resources" said Dr Sharma during the oration. He emphasized on the need to develop an "Innovation Ecosystem" where specialists of different streams can cross-fertilize an idea to find a sustainable solution of a clinical problem. Dr Sharma is known internationally in the field of Global Surgery and low-cost surgical innovations with many international publications and awards to his credit.
An information booklet on "Jaundice" prepared by the department was released on this occasion for the benefit of patients to clear doubts and myths surrounding this common problem.
Dr Jitendra Sen (junior resident), nursing staff Vikas, Laxman, Hari Ram, office staff Amit and Pushpa were given appreciation award for their contribution towards the progress of the department.
Prof Bertha, Officiating Executive Director, AIIMS, Bhopal congratulated the department for outstanding work and progress of the of the department in last one year.
Program was attended in a large number by senior doctors from Bhopal, heads of the department, faculty members, residents, students, and staff besides Dr Rajesh Malik, Dean Academics and Dr Ajit Deputy Director Administration.
