Delhi Govt submitted CAG reports to LG after 497 days delay, claims Raj Niwas

Sunday, 15 December 2024 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

Raj Niwas on Saturday claimed the Delhi government submitted the long-pending Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports to Lt Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena after 497 days delay, to seek his permission fearing an adverse order by the Delhi High Court.

Giving details, officials said it took the fear of an adverse order by the Delhi High Court for the AAP Government to hurriedly submit the long-pending CAG Reports to the LG for making it possible for the reports to be made public, by placing them in the Assembly.

Earlier, the Delhi government on Thursday informed the Delhi High Court that Chief Minister Atishi, who holds the finance portfolio, has sent the CAG reports related to liquor duty, pollution and finance to the Lieutenant Governor for placing before the state assembly.

According to Raj Niwas, out of these 14 pending CAG Reports, 11 pertain to the time when Arvind Kejriwal was the Chief Minister of Delhi.  The reports include those on DTC, Public Health and Mohalla Clinics, State PSUs, where huge bungling and failings of the AAP Government are said to be detailed.

Following a writ petition filed by the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly in the High Court seeking directions of the Court to the Government to lay 14 long-pending CAG Reports on the Table of the House, the Government in a move to save face hurriedly sent 12 reports on 11.12.2024 at 03:30 PM just a day before the hearing and two reports on 12.12.2024 at 07:50 PM to the LG Secretariat, after the hearing had concluded.

It may be noted that it was only in pursuance of the fervent requests made by the LG office to the Finance Minister and other functionaries to place the CAG reports with the LG office and thereafter on account of the present Writ Petition, that the Finance Minister of Delhi, currently also functioning as the Chief Minister of Delhi has released the long pending CAG reports and forwarded them to the LG office only on 11.12.2024.

According to Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly, Vijendra Gupta the reports were withheld intentionally to suppress critical findings and avoid scrutiny. He claimed the reports were forwarded at the last minute to avoid an adverse court order.
