Ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly Election slated to be held early next year, an Inter-State Border Coordination Meeting was convened on Saturday by the Delhi Police aiming to strengthen cross-border coordination with the bordering districts of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to ensure seamless security and prevent any disruptions during the electoral process.
The meeting, which was held under the chairmanship of Joint Commissioner of Police (Jt. CP)/ Southern Range S.K. Jain, witnessed the participation of senior police officers of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. The DCPs of South, South East, and South West Districts of Delhi Police were also present.During the meeting, Jain emphasized the importance of vigilance and collaboration, stating, “Our collective efforts and steadfast coordination will be the cornerstone of a secure electoral process. By maintaining high levels of preparedness and cooperation, we can effectively prevent any unlawful activities that threaten peace and integrity during the elections.”
The meeting focused on several critical areas to ensure a smooth and fair election process, including strengthening border security. To ensure this, the police decided on joint manning of inter-state border check-posts, installation of CCTV cameras at critical locations and conducting intensive vehicle checks to curb the smuggling of liquor, contraband, and other illegal items.
The police will also focus on cracking down on illicit activities including special focus on preventing the smuggling of liquor and tackling bootlegging operations, which are often rampant during elections and suppression of illegal firearms circulation and apprehension of individuals involved in their distribution.
In the coming months, police said that they will monitor criminal elements. “We will identify and surveillance musclemen and other criminal elements to maintain peace during the elections. We will carry out swift execution of Non-Bailable Warrants (NBWs) and make concerted efforts to apprehend wanted criminals and proclaimed offenders,” an officer said, adding that they will also work on enhancing intelligence sharing.
