After the final day for withdrawal of nomination the status of candidates in seven assembly constituencies of Bhopal has become clear. The main contest here will be between BJP and Congress.
Congress rebels Aamir Akil and Nasir Islam are also in the fray in the North assembly constituencies. Both of them did not withdraw their names, ignoring the advice of senior Congress leaders. There were speculations about the withdrawal of nominations of Aamir and Nasir till the last moment of withdrawal of nominations.
A total of 171 nominations were filed for 7 assembly constituencies of Bhopal. Upon investigation, 12 of these were cancelled.
A few minutes before the end of the time for withdrawal of nominations, independent candidate Jitendra Daga withdrew his nomination from Congress rebel Huzoor. He reached the election office with Congress candidate Naresh Gyanchandani. As soon as Daga came out and sat with Naresh after withdrawing his nomination, Naresh started crying. Daga wiped his tears.
Earlier this morning, Congress state secretary from Govindpura assembly constituency and Paksha Khamra, who had filed the independent form, joined BJP today. He has also withdrawn his nomination in support of BJP candidate Krishna Gaur. Khamra was given membership of the party by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan.
Congress leader and former councilor from Bhopal North Abdul Shafiq withdrew his nomination. He said, I am supporting independent candidate from North, Aamir Akil. In Bhopal North, the main contest is between BJP candidate and Aamir Akil. Congress candidate Atif Akil will be at third position. Let us tell you that Aamir Akil is the brother of sitting MLA Arif Akil and uncle of Congress candidate Atif. He has also stood as an independent.
There are possibilities of an interesting contest in Bhopal North. Congress candidate Atif Aqeel's uncle Aamir Aqeel is contesting as an independent candidate from here. Since Aamir's nomination, there were speculations about his withdrawal. MLA Arif Aqeel and his son Congress candidate had said that they will convince him.
Arif Aqeel had also said that it is a family matter. Everything will be alright. BJP has made Alok Sharma its candidate from here.
