Police, criminals exchange fire near Akshardham Metro Station

Three seperate incidents of shootout and encounter between the Delhi Police and criminals were reported in the last 24 hours in national Capital from Akshardham Metro Station, Najafgarh and Seemapuri in which one gangster sustained injuries and four were arrested.

In the Akshardham metro station shoutout on Sunday around 10.45 am, the gang, however, managed to escape. The incident took place at when police was trying to nab the criminals involved in duping several people near the metro station, police said.

According to police, a team from Mandawali Police Station laid a trap and when the white-coloured car carrying the criminals approached, it was signalled to stop, a police officer said.

The occupants were asked to come out of the car, however, they fired at the police team. Police retaliated and both sides fired one round at each other, however, no one was injured, police said. The gang drove towards Geeta Colony flyover and the police team gave chase but could not catch them, they added.

According to official involved in the Najafgarh shootout, a few criminals managed to flee from the spot. In Najafgarh incident which falls under the jurisdiction of Dwarka district, the sleuths of the Delhi Police  arrested three gangsters after an encounter that broke out on Najafgarh’s Kair- Mitraon road on Saturday evening. Police said the accused are members of Deepak Dhankhar group, a proxy group of gangster of Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu.

The accused have been identified as Vicky (27), Naveen alias Tinku (20), both residents of Najafgarh and Deepak (28), a resident of Gurugram in Haryana.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dwarka Anto Alphonse said after receiving information on Saturday that Vicky, along with his two associates possessing illegal weapons would come to Najafgarh on Kair- Mitraon road to attack some businessman for extortion.

“Acting on the inputs a trap was laid and at around 7:40 PM on Saturday, Vicky was spotted on a bike with two of his associates. Police team signaled him to stop but he tried to flee. The police team asked them to surrender but Vicky and his associates opened fire upon the police team,” said the DCP.

“After brief exchange of fire, the team succeeded in arresting all the three criminals. Vicky sustained a bullet injury on his leg while one bullet hit the bullet proof jacket of constable Kulbhushan,” said the DCP.

“During interrogation, it was revealed that all three criminals had been involved in arranging funds for the criminal of Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu. On September 21, the accused had threaten a businessman and would have even fired upon same person to ensure that their threat is not taken lightly and victim(s) actually provide them extortion money, but their luck ran out and they were arrested by the police team,” said the DCP.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police have also arrested a 40-year-old man after an encounter in Seemapuri area on Saturday night.

Police have recovered a country made pistol along with 22 cartridges from the possession of the accused.

The accused, identified as, Aasif (40) a resident of Nand Nagari, was involved in 40 cases of Dacoity, Murder, Robbery, Snatching etc. He was also arrested by Hyderabad police in May 2013 and booked in 10-12 cases of snatching. Police had also declared a reward of Rs 25, 000 on information leading to his arrest.

According to Amit Sharma, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Shahdara district, following a tip off on Saturday night a trap was laid near Seemapuri when at about 2:00 am, Aasif was seen riding a bike and was signaled to stop.

“Seeing police Aasif tried to flee away and in order to escape he fired three rounds at the team. In retaliation staff fired couple of rounds and later overpowered him,” said the DCP.

“During interrogation it was revealed that Aasif was also wanted in the murder case of his wife and was absconding since then. He further revealed that he was also planning to murder his sister-in-law and mother-in-law, who were pursuing the murder case of his wife,” said the DCP.
