The Vision Zero Summit got underway at the EPCO Auditorium on Wednesday, bringing together experts to discuss urban resilience and road safety for sustainable mobility. The event will continue until March 28.
The summit, organised by the Department of Architecture and Planning at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) is in collaboration with NIDM, ITPI, and the Urban Development & Housing Department of Madhya Pradesh. It featured policymakers, professionals, and academics addressing urban resilience and safe mobility.
Sanjay Kumar Shukla, Additional Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh, highlighted the need for affordable, reliable transport systems to foster sustainable urban development. He stressed the importance of considering social issues in the planning process.
Manoranjan Parida, Director of CRRI, underscored the significance of road safety in school zones to protect children. His insights emphasised the importance of creating safer environments for students and their daily commutes.
International experts, including Ankit Patel from Portugal’s University of Minho and Todd Litman from Canada’s Victoria Transport Policy Institute, shared their expertise. They discussed sustainable urban planning and the integration of intelligent transport systems (ITS) for better city management.
