The Delhi government will celebrate ‘Chaitra Shukla Pratipada Nav Samvatsar 2082’ or ‘Hindu Nav Varsh’ at the Delhi Legislative Assembly for the first time on March 30. The event, presided over by Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta, will have Chief Minister Rekha Gupta as the chief guest, with Minister of Art and Culture Kapil Mishra in attendance.
Speaker Gupta on Saturday held a high-level review meeting to assess security measures, traffic management, and overall event arrangements for the celebrations. This will be the first time that Hindu New Year is being celebrated on such a large scale at the Delhi Assembly’s premises. According to Speaker Gupta, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and her cabinet ministers, Members of Parliament from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, and other distinguished guests are expected to attend, with an estimated gathering of over 1500 people.
Earlier, the Delhi government has announced to celebrate Hindu Nav Varsh’ , with a series of cultural and religious events, including a large-scale ‘Falahar Party’ during Navratri. The celebrations will begin on March 30 with an event at the Delhi Assembly, where the entire building will be illuminated with lamps, reminiscent of Diwali
At the meeting, Speaker Gupta directed all concerned departments to ensure seamless coordination and efficient execution of their respective responsibilities. He emphasised that no inconvenience should be caused to attendees and that security remains a top priority.
Delhi Police, including Additional Deputy Commissioners of Police (North), ACP Traffic, ACPs of Delhi Armed Police, and CRPF officials, assured that extensive security measures will be in place. A comprehensive traffic plan has also been devised to ensure smooth vehicular
movement around the Delhi Assembly premises.
The Speaker further instructed officials to ensure the provision of adequate drinking water facilities for attendees. Special decorations, including floral arrangements, will adorn the historic Delhi Assembly building. In addition, the entire Vidhan Sabha premises will be illuminated, and two large balloons will be placed at the event site to enhance visibility and celebration.
“Officials from CATS, Fire Department, Horticulture, and other administrative units have been tasked with taking necessary actions for the success of the event. After the meeting, the Speaker of the Assembly also inspected the event venue along with the police, officials associated with the programme, and other personnel. The Delhi Legislative Assembly Secretariat remains committed to ensuring a well-organized and grand celebration of the auspicious occasion,” read the statement.
As the occasion coincides with the first day of Navratri, the government has planned a Falahar (fruit-based meal) programme for attendees who observe fasting. Additionally, the Delhi government will organise multiple ‘Falahar’ events across the city on Saptami, Ashtami and Navami, when underprivileged girls will be served food during Kanya Pujan ceremonies and special prayers will be held for Goddess Durga.
