Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday paid a visit to Odisha and offered prayers to Lord Jagannath and was delighted to have had a glimpse of the holy trinity. She also met the Chief Minister of Odisha.

During her visit, the chief minister announced that her government will celebrate the upcoming ‘Utkal Divas’ (Odisha Day) in a grand manner in the national capital.

Utkal Divas, also known as Odisha Day, is celebrated on April 1 every year to commemorate the formation of the state of Odisha. On this day in 1936, Odisha was carved out as a separate province from the Bihar and Orissa province under British rule, based on linguistic identity.

While extending greetings to the Odia people here and those living in Delhi on upcoming Utkal Divas on April 1, Rekha Gupta said, “Taking a significant step in this direction, the Delhi Government has decided to celebrate ‘Utkal Diwas’ with great enthusiasm. This celebration will not only pay tribute to the rich cultural heritage of Odisha but will also reflect and enhance Delhi’s diversity.”

She said Odia families residing in the national capital are working hard for the development of Delhi. “I would like to say that they are an integral part of Delhi and I assure them that the government of Delhi always stands by them and the government is committed to work for their development,” the chief minister said.

The Chief Minister emphasized that Delhi, as the nation’s capital, symbolises the aspirations of people from diverse states. She acknowledged the invaluable contributions made by thousands

of  families from Odisha to the city’s

growth and assured them of the

Delhi Government’s unwavering commitment to their welfare, security, and

empowerment.

The Delhi chief minister is on a two-day visit to Odisha. “Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta paid a courtesy visit to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Lok Seva Bhawan today,” Odisha CMO said in a post on X.

Accompanied by Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma and Puri’s BJP MP Sambit Patra, Gupta received a warm welcome from temple officials. The dignitaries paid homage to the sibling deities and sought their blessings. During her visit, she also explored the temple complex.

Expressing her gratitude,  the chief minister said she felt fortunate to visit Puri for the first time since assuming office. “I am blessed to have had the darshan of Lord Jagannath after taking on the responsibility of Delhi Chief Minister.

I have prayed that the path of progress we are striving for, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, remains clear for both Delhi and the entire nation,” she said.
