Two NSCN-K insurgents surrender in Arunachal

In a major boost to the ongoing counter-insurgency operations and peace initiatives in the Northeast, two active insurgents belonging to the NSCN-K (Nikki Sumi) faction voluntarily surrendered before a joint team of security forces in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district.
The insurgents chose to shun the path of violence and laid down their arms before the Assam Rifles and the Tirap Police in the general area of Kheti on June 28. During the formal surrender, the duo handed over two pistols along with a cache of live ammunition.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence, the successful surrender reflects the growing confidence of local communities in the security forces and the Government’s ongoing mainstreaming initiatives designed to bring misguided youth back into society.
The two surrendered rebels have been taken into custody for necessary legal formalities, following which they will be integrated into the State’s official rehabilitation procedures.
According to the statement, this development is a direct result of sustained civil outreach programmes conducted by the Assam Rifles to restore long-term peace, security, and normalcy in the region. Security forces have reiterated their commitment to encouraging remaining insurgents to give up arms and join the path of peace, development, and nation-building.
