Two elderly women found dead inside Rajinder Nagar home in Delhi

Two elderly women were found dead under mysterious circumstances inside their residence in central Delhi’s New Rajinder Nagar area on Thursday morning, police said.
The deceased were identified as Saroj Bala and her sister-in-law Chandra Kanta, both aged around 80 years. According to officials, Saroj Bala was unmarried and had been living with Chandra Kanta in the house for several years.
Police said the incident came to light after a domestic help alerted authorities about a foul smell coming from the house around 10.30 am.
“The help, who usually cleaned the porch area, found all doors locked from inside and informed the police,” an officer said.
A police team rushed to the spot and found the bodies of the two women inside a room. One of them was lying on a bed while the other was found on the floor.
Investigators suspect the deaths may have occurred one or two days earlier as neighbours had not seen the women recently and a strong foul smell had begun emanating from the premises.
Police said the single-storey house had four entry points, but no signs of forced entry, ransacking or struggle were found during inspection.
Officials are also examining whether the women were suffering from age-related health issues or were living in isolation without immediate family support.
Statements of neighbours and local residents are being recorded to establish the sequence of events leading to the deaths.
“No signs of foul play have surfaced in the preliminary inquiry, though all possible angles, including accidental death and medical complications, are being investigated,” the officer added.
Police said further legal action will be taken after the postmortem reports are received.
