TMC Party Office Set on Fire in Jamuria Amid Bengal Election Results 2026; Clashes Reported Across West Bengal

A Trinamool Congress (TMC) party office was set on fire in Jamuria on Monday amid rising political tensions during counting day of the West Bengal Assembly Election Results 2026, as early trends showed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leading strongly in the state.
The incident occurred as counting of votes progressed and reports of political clashes surfaced from multiple districts across West Bengal.
Clashes and violence reported
Apart from the Jamuria incident, clashes were also reported in Asansol and Dinhata, where supporters of rival parties allegedly engaged in violent confrontations near counting centres.
In another incident, a video circulating on social media showed a scuffle between polling agents at an Asansol counting centre. The footage also showed vandalism, including broken chairs and damaged vehicles, before security forces intervened to restore order.
A separate clash between BJP and TMC workers in Cooch Behar’s Dinhata led to Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel resorting to lathi-charge to control the situation.
Police response
Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate Commissioner Pranav Kumar confirmed that a political party camp was vandalised and said investigations are underway to identify those responsible.
Security deployment
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has deployed a large number of CAPF personnel across sensitive areas in West Bengal to maintain law and order during counting. Around 700 companies of central forces will reportedly remain deployed even after polling concludes.
Election backdrop
The violence comes as the BJP maintains a strong lead in early counting trends, positioning itself for what could be a historic victory in West Bengal, while the ruling TMC faces a major electoral challenge after 15 years in power.
