Student dies after assault in Dehradun, five arrested
Angel Chakma, a 24-year-old student from Unakoti district of Tripura, sadly passed away on Friday after being stabbed in Dehradun’s Selaqui area on December 6. He was attacked along with his younger brother Michael while they were buying groceries. The incident has sparked outrage, with allegations of racial slurs being used against the brothers before the attack.
Five people have been arrested in connection with the incident, while one accused is still at large. Dehradun’s Senior Superintendent of Police, Ajai Singh, stated that police teams are tracking the absconding accused, believed to be in Nepal, and efforts are underway to arrest him as soon as possible. The police report states that six youths allegedly hurled racial slurs at Chakma and his brother, Michael. When Michael intervened to protect his brother, he was stabbed in the head and back by one of the attackers.
Michael filed a complaint with the police after. Following Angel’s death, the police added murder and criminal conspiracy charges to the case.
