Chandigarh chemist shop murder accused injured in police encounter after escape attempt

2 accused in the murder of a chemist shop cashier in Chandigarh’s Sector 11 were injured after a police encounter during an alleged escape attempt, officials said on Thursday.
According to police sources, the accused were being transported from Jammu and Kashmir to Chandigarh after their arrest when they allegedly tried to flee near the Dhanas forest area. In response, escorting police personnel opened fire, injuring both suspects.
The accused have been identified as Aryan and Sunny Mehra, who were earlier arrested in connection with the June 13 shooting incident at Shri Kumar Medical Hall that left a cashier dead. The encounter took place during their transit under police custody, officials said.
Following the firing, both accused were immediately shifted to Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, for treatment. Doctors said their condition is stable and not life-threatening.
Police have intensified the investigation into the murder case and are also examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged escape attempt. A third accused in the case is still absconding, officials added.
The incident has sparked discussions over security arrangements during prisoner transport and the sequence of events leading to the encounter.
