RMC frees encroached land for vending zones and public amenities

The properties and lands of Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) that have been subject to encroachment and are under unauthorized occupation for years are now being cleared in a phased manner.  In the past year, the civic body has undertaken extensive measures to demarcate these lands, construct boundary walls and also ensure their systematic utilisation for future public utility projects.

The Corporation’s team has cleared encroachments from approximately 4.8 acres in Edalhatu, 78.65 decimals in Kumsum Vihar, 51 decimals at Karamtoli Pond, around 1.20 acres in Gwala Toli in Doranda and 31.5 decimals in Tharpakna. Following demarcation, work on construction of boundary walls at these sites is currently underway by RMC.

Additionally, boundary wall construction work is also being carried out by the civic body to secure its assets like the Morabadi Electric Sub- station, Morabadi Registry Office, Naga Baba Khatal, MRF Centre, Trekkar Stabd and Bakri Bazaar Store. Measures are also being taken to construct walls to protect the shelter homes in Dhurwa, Jagannathpur and Khadgarha.

Encroachment removal drives followed by demarcation work has also been carried out at various other locations- approximately 2.80 acres of land at Bara Ghaghra, 5 acres at Manitola, 11 decimals at Gowshala Chowk, one acre at Doranda market and 0.44 acres at Booty More Chowk.

Amongst the freed lands, the civic body proposes to develop systematic and convenient vending zones in areas like Morabadi Electric Sub- station, Morabadi Registry Office, Booty More and Doranda market which will provide organised spaces for vendors who are currently scattered across the footpaths and roadsides.

Labour Chowks have been developed at Doranda market and Lowadih to provide an organised space for daily wage labourers. Work will also be undertaken to develop libraries, shelter homes, public amenities, sanitation and waste management infrastructure and other public utility projects on other municipal lands.

The primary objective of the action taken by RMC over the past year is to ensure that public land serves public interest. Land that could not be utilized for the City’s development for years due to encroachment is now being reclaimed and secured while work is also underway to develop these properties in a phased manner so that both current and future generations can reap benefits.
