Dreaded gangster Prince Khan’s brother Banti Khan held in Kolkata
Dhanbad Police, with assistance from the West Bengal Police, arrested Banti Khan, brother of Wasseypur gangster Prince Khan, from Kolkata while he was allegedly preparing to flee to Dubai using forged documents, police said on Monday.
Dhanbad SSP Prabhat Kumar announced the arrest at a press conference at Bank More police station. According to the police, Banti Khan was planning to leave the country on an international flight when a special team, acting on a tip-off, tracked him down in Kolkata.
Police recovered a valid passport as well as an allegedly forged passport and visa from his possession. Investigators are now trying to determine how the forged travel documents were arranged and identify others who may have been involved in the alleged network.
Police said Banti Khan has more than a dozen criminal cases registered against him, including cases related to murder, extortion, offences under the Arms Act and criminal conspiracy. He had been wanted by Dhanbad Police for a considerable period.
Following his arrest, police brought Banti Khan to Dhanbad and conducted a road parade from Bank More to Wasseypur. He was handcuffed and secured with a rope around his waist as police personnel escorted him through the streets. The parade attracted crowds, with some motorists stopping to watch.
During the parade, some people allegedly assaulted Banti Khan in the presence of police. Police said they were identifying those involved in the assault and would take appropriate action.
This is not the first time Dhanbad Police have conducted a public parade of alleged members of the Prince Khan gang following their arrest. A similar exercise was carried out earlier involving other alleged gang members before they were sent to jail.
The latest arrest is being viewed by police as a significant setback to the Prince Khan network. Earlier, one of the gang’s alleged key operatives, Major alias Saifi, was arrested at Kolkata airport while allegedly attempting to flee to Dubai.
SSP Prabhat Kumar said questioning Banti Khan could provide important leads into the gang’s alleged extortion operations, financial transactions and members operating from abroad. Police are also investigating the wider network involved in arranging the alleged forged documents.
